6 Items You Should Wait to Buy in the Store

By Brittany Loeffler on May 9, 2020

During this pandemic of coronavirus, we are all confined to our homes just waiting for life to get back to some resemblance of normal. With retail stores closed, people have taken to online shopping to stay busy, keep the economy semi-active, and to cure their quarantine boredom. While you can buy pretty much anything you can imagine online and have it shipped right to your door, there are some items you should wait to buy in the store.

Dresses

As the weather gets warmer, you’re probably more inclined to buy new clothes for the summer. This means more sundresses! You may also have an event that has been postponed that you need to buy a formal dress for. It’s always a good idea to buy dresses in the store so that you can try them on. Every dress is different and if you’ve ever been dress shopping before, you know that you can’t always rely on the size to be true.

Shoes

There is nothing worse than buying shoes that end up being terribly uncomfortable. For the most part, you don’t notice the shoes that you are wearing throughout the day. That is, unless they are leaving you blistered and in pain. Buying shoes online means taking the risk of having them be uncomfortable and painful. It’s always a good idea to buy shoes in the store so you can try them on and walk around in them a bit before committing to buying them.

Bathing Suits

Summer is quickly approaching, which means you’re probably ready to sit out on the beach or by the pool in a brand new bathing suit. There are so many websites that sell adorable bathing suits, but you are also at risk for it not fitting how you like when you order online. Bathing suits are difficult to shop for in general, especially if you are someone who doesn’t feel particularly comfortable in them. Wait to buy a bathing suit in the store so you can try them on and make sure that you feel comfortable.

Work Suits

While working from home was pretty sweet at first, especially being able to wear pajama bottoms during Zoom meetings, it’s getting old fast. Some people are itching to put on their work attire and head back into the office again. Others, if you’re graduating, are worried about buying an impressive interview outfit for when it’s time to jump back into the job market.

It’s always a good idea to wait and buy your blazers, jackets, and suit sets in the store. The first reason is that they will most likely need to be tailored to fit you correctly. Secondly, you’ll want to make sure that you feel comfortable and confident in them.

Accessories

Buying jewelry, scarves, and other accessories should wait until you can buy them in the store. During this pandemic, many small businesses and boutiques have suffered because they do not offer online shopping. Once these retail stores open up, you should browse and support them by buying their products.

Jeans

When is the last time you actually wore jeans? Probably not since the beginning of March, right? When you’re stuck at home, there is no reason to put on jeans when you can wear sweatpants or leggings. So, why would you buy jeans that you aren’t going to wear right away? By the time we can safely go out in public, it’ll be summer, and jeans will be put away until the fall. Wait to buy these in the store.

Brand Name Clothing

If you are a bargain hunter who goes to TJ Maxx and Marshalls constantly, then you’ll definitely want to curb your retail appetite and avoid shopping online. These stores offer brand name and designer clothing for a steep discount, especially if you look at their clearance racks. Don’t overspend with online shopping when you can just wait to buy in the store.

Think of the Environment

Shopping online means a lot of plastic and transportation. Not to mention the high rates of returns when something doesn’t fit or the item isn’t as expected. When you cut down buying clothing online and wait until you can buy it in the store, then you avoid the plastic packaging and shipping to get to you and the risk of having to send it back.

Wait to Buy in the Store

We’re in tough times right now, but that doesn’t mean we won’t overcome it! Support your local small businesses and wait until they open to start shopping for items you’ve been considering. Make sure that the clothing or shoes you want to buy fit and look good on you. Too many times you’ll order something online and want to return it only to find out that their policy is strict or it’s just too much of a hassle.
